The annual Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament held at Spotlight 29 Casino, sponsored by the La Quinta Chamber of Commerce. Held every July and open to the public.

The Annual Soap Box Derby, held in 2008 in March, is a great family fun event. Who would have ever thought that soap box derby racing would have become a "sponsored" event, much like NASCAR and Formula 1. In La Quinta, the kids have sponsors for their cars and take the soap box car building and racing seriously. Winners have also gone on to compete in the annual national event back east. A great date for everyone and adults who have a passion for racing, anything with wheels. Held on the streets of the La Quinta Cove, on Avenida Bermudas. This annual event, free to everone, trophies, food and fun for all who attend.

In 2008 the La Quinta Chamber of Commerce held its First Annual City Car Show in conjunction with its 25th Anniversary. Over 130 customs, classics and rods appeared at the local event. Trophies, plaques, prizes and giveaways were included and the event was considered a great success. The car show which is scheduled to be an annual event shall occur every June.

The Bermuda Dunes Executive Airport located at 79-880 Avenue 42, in Bermuda Dunes is a private airport offering private and corporate service. The Augustine Casino located at Avenue 54 and Van Buren is located 3 miles east of PGA West. Try the Augustine Prime Rib Buffet at Cafe 54 on Fridays and Saturdays (priced from$9.95 to $14.95), well known in the valley for being right on the price and easy on the pocket book for choices of buffets around the valley. Their are daily buffets, which include Brunch, European, Italian, American, Seafood, so be sure to try them all if you can. Augustine has $2 black jack tables, and offers a much more relaxed style of gaming experience compared to other casinos in the desert. The La Quinta Community Center offers classes, camps and events to residents of the City of La Quinta. A nominal fee is charged for various programs. To find out about the various programs available, visit www.cvrpd.ca.gov . Some of my favorite programs include Santa's Hotline during the holiday season. Call the North Pole and talk with Santa, Mrs. Claus, and all of their friends. Kids can take peewee pom pom classes, beginning ballet, dance and charm school for good manners. There is even a mad science camp for children ages 6 to 14. And the parents aren't left out either. Adults are getting into the new popular sport known as "pickleball" - a sport that combines badminton and tennis. A trip to the Coachella Valley would not be complete without visiting the famous Shield's Date Gardens! Located on Highway 111 just east of Jefferson Avenue in Indio. In 1924 Floyd and Bess Shields came to California and started Shields Date Gardens. Floyd's "Blonde" and "Brunette" dates are his own creations and cannot be found anywhere else in the world, so be sure to pick up a pack of dates for yourself and take another pack home to a loved one. And if you have time, visitors are encouraged to see the 15-minute film "Romance and Sex Life of the Date". The US Postal Service opened a second Post Office in about 2005/2006 to accomodate the growth in the east valley, particularly in La Quinta. This newest location located at Corporate Center Drive, just off Adams Street offers self-serve postage machines and is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturdays.

The new La Quinta Library offers many special programs for Youth and Adult Readers. Anyone in California may obtain a La Quinta Library card. To get a card, you will need to show either a valid California Drivers License with a current address, or two forms of identification, one showing who you are and the other indicating your current mailing address in California. Parents or legal guardians must sign for children's cards. Non-residents of California can obtain a library card for a $10 annual fee.

The local La Quinta Post Office (Cove Location) located at Avenida Bermudez near the cross street of Calle Cadiz is very much like that of an old town post office, yet it has all of the high technology and equipment of a modern day US Post Office. Due to the increase in development and population growth in the east end of the valley, particularly in the La Quinta area, a second US Post Office was opened in 2006 to accomodate the population and demand for service. This second post office is located at Adams Street and Corporate Center (79125 Corporate Center) in North La Quinta, north of Highway 111. The La Quinta Cove Post Office does not provide service on Saturday whereas the Corporate Center location is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturdays.

The Indian Wells Tennis Garden located at 78200 Miles Avenue, with an entrance also located at the cross streets also of Fred Waring Drive and Washington Street in Palm Desert is our best location for "tennis in the desert." Every March, professional championship tennis returns to the desert with the Pacific Life Open. For two weeks, the top players in the world of mens and womens tennis descend upon the desert, which culminate in a weekend of usually to a sold-out crowd of finals. In 2008 Roger Federer was defeated in earlier rounds by Spain's golden boy 22-year-old Rafael Nadal Parera (now ranked #2 World) , who went on to win the desert's Pacific Life Open, and the first Tennis Master's Event in 2008 . SilverRock Golf Course, a public golf course in La Quinta, with a main entrance at Avenue 52 and Cetrino, directly across from Citrus Country Club (back gate). This is a great location for residents especially at The Citrus who especially like an alternative choice for game play at reasonable prices. Also, residents of the City of La Quinta have discounted golf play which is 15% off posted prices all year long. There are future development plans in 2010/2011 for SilverRock, which call for an on-site 283 room 4-Star quality resort boutique hotel, boutique shops, and 127 casita/time share properties which line part of the golf course.
